Title: What's the Most Beautiful Thing You Know About Horses?
Author: Richard Van CampIllustrator: George LittlechildPublish Date: Mar 25 2003
Publisher: Children's Book PressPages: 32IBSN: 0892391855
Classification: Children's Picture BookGenre: FictionAge: K-3rd Grade
Annotation: Stuck in characteristic weather for his part of Canada, a entertaining, and bright dialogue unsues over the traditional dog as pet and horse (which don't survive in such levels of cold)!
Summary and Reading Log:: "All's we had up here were dogs." Says the author, a member of the Dogrib nation from Canada's Northwest Territories, as he begins a story in questions to family and friends, while stuck in the house during a snow storm, about horses while since he feels he (and other similarly pet-challenged Canadian snow dwellers). He sets out to learn everything about horses he can alongside some of the most vibrant, eclectic impressions of horses that may even reflect the element of both unknowing and idealization and fantasy! I think parents will LOVE to experience this book over and over with their children as well as love the conversation it brings. I think this books illustrates the fact that Canadian literature has something to offer others for many reasons but in this case, it really illustrates how we play off each others and learn about each others worlds. The best part is the child friendly way it illustrates that!
