Annotation: After loosing her parents to a storm at sea, Primrose sets out to find her parents that she still believes are alive, through humorous trials and tribulations.
Summary: Living in a small Canadian fishing village is a young girl named primrose. When her parents disappear at sea during a storm and are thought to have passed away, miss Primrose already begins to show her strong-willed personality by believing that her parents are still alive and refusing to go to the funeral. So as she lives between relatives and neighbors she begins to attract crazy tribulations all of which she rides in her typical primrose ways! Her life is much like the waffles served at a restaurant in the book that serves...you guessed it...everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, on top of waffles. There is simply no way to not love Primrose (just like waffles)!
Reading Log: I love happy endings! This along with the humorous anecdotes are what remain in my mind. That along with the nostalgia of characters from MY childhood like Anne of Green Gables, Annie or Pippi Longstockings. Something about red haired Canadian orphans make the world swoon!! Polly Horvath is a funny, sweet author who also has won a Newbery Honor for this book, along with other awards, to boot! What's more the book has recipes in it so it makes for a great literacy enhanced experience. I actually even giggled out loud all myself at times while reading this and even related to the child character (well at least to the child inside me)! And food lovers, beware, you have found a three course meal of children's books!
